In September 2015 the Church of Scotland proposed a refugee co-ordination project. This was at a time when there were many migrants and refugees making their way into Europe, there was a lot of media attention on the issues, and there was the expectation of many Syrian families coming to Scotland through the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS).

Open House was founded in Dundee in 1990 as an independent Scottish Catholic journal of comment, opinion and reflection.

Open House is published six times a year with features on religion and current affairs, and reviews of books and the arts. We do not pay contributors, but we do have a small fund which allows us to pay young people for articles.
